Hummingbird

I recently attended a fabulous workshop with the amazing artist Julie Longdon shes a brilliant tutor, very informative, I learned a great deal about everything, approach, media and materials

I used to do a lot of work in pencil and watercolour, so I was keen to give it another try after some twenty years!
I've finally completed it some weeks later, held up by a bit of shoulder surgery
completing the under wing, tail and flowers, the hummingbird body was done in the class
I'm so pleased with it as I've always stayed away from drawing animals and people, so its really given me a boost to try more

Please do check out Julies work, her work is mind blowing how she captures, feathers and fur is incredible Click here for her website

The hummingbird is quite small aprximatly 5' in length and it was coloured with Faber Castell Polychromos

DecoArt Keeping an Eye on the Time

Inspired by Andy Skinners Time Challenge, click here for details

I used a small metal decorative clock, I started by taking out the paper face plate and painted to look like an eye
Starting with a Carbon Black circle fanning out brush strokes from the centre, applying brushstroke of Quinacridone Gold around the outer edge and Prussian Blue in between
Shading around the edges with Burnt Umber
Finishing with highlights of Cobalt Teal Hue and Titanium White
Finished with Media Gloss Varnish

Apply Texture sand to the clock case and the wings these were cut on a Cricut machine two layers glued together for stability!

Once Dry I applied a coat of Burnt Umber, with washes of Quinacridone Gold and Prussian Blue

Highlighted the rim on the clock case and the edges of the wings with Metallic Lustres Brilliant Turquoise and Orange Flicker

DecoArt Beach Huts

Way back in the dark November Days I attended the Ministry of Mixolgy weekend and attended Andy Skinner's Class
Michelle Webb was also teaching her Beach Hut class which looked wonderful so I bought one of her kits, as its now Summer and we now live by the sea!
Finally here's my version which also uses some of the elements from Andy's kit

DecoArt Media Texture products with Media Fluid Acrylics
Using Ministry of Mixology Beach Hut Kit by Michelle Webb and elements from Andy Skinners Book Kit by Tando Creative

Once the kit was assembled, I added texture with torn cardboard and Media Texture Sand and Modelling paste to create the landscape layers and the sea

Applied Crackle paint to the embellishments and the outside of the box
Applied washes of Quinacridone Gold to the beach areas with washes of Burnt Unber and Carbon Black
Wiping back with a baby wipe to soften and expose texture
Applied washes of Prussian Blue darker at the top working down to the sky line
Toning down at the top with Burnt Unber and wiping back to highlight the clouds
Applied Gesso to the beach huts, followed with Medium Grey Value 6
Once Dry applied Weathered wood, once dry applied a coat of Titanium White and allow the crackle to develop

Then decorated with washes of Quinacridone Gold, Prussian Blue and Burnt Umber
