Stampotique Vintage

I decided to put together a Stanpotique Vintage Photo Album
This one was made up of pictures taken at a Family Garden Party back in 1896 One hundred years before the Stampotique Company started
It shows many of the ancestors of the family we know and love today

Great Aunt Moth Fab, Prudence Prom Queen and beloved Aunt Mothloved and their niece and nephew Mary & Eric and baby Smile

I stamped then in Stazon Timber  Brown and the used Distress Ink, Walnut stain mixed with water and painted the images
The Background was dabbed in the Walnut stain & Old paper and splattered with the same colours
The edges were distressed with Walnut and Black Soot and finished with DecoArt one step 

A vintage Journey- Say it with Words

 I started with a Piece of  black 16" x 16" card, which was scored and folded to a template that I have just learned on my monthly class with Kathy Byrne at the Craftbarn its similar to the Tim Holtz W book, but differently fold sequence and additional folds for the internal pockets

I then cut 2 pieces of A4 into 8 x 4" x4" and 8 x 4" x 1  6/8" sections

These were then painted with washes of DecoArt Desert Turquoise, Plum, Lavender, Quinacridone Gold & Carbon Black and then stamped with mainly Tim’s Stamps and a few of others

Then distressed using my fab new tool Comfort Craft Distressing Tool, Designed by Ingrid Bolme by Prima it has a sander, scratcher and knife

I cut a variety of tags, and stamped with words and a various quotes and sentiments and used distress ink, Old paper, Walnut stain and Black Soot

I made the covers from chipboard and embossed card, these were painted with the DecoArt acrylics and finished with a wash of carbon black

The spine was created with Textured Gesso on card and then along with the covers highlighted with treasure gold Aquamarine

Clarity Stamp Flower Power

I stamped Clarity Leafy Branch & Laurel Leaf onto card and cut out

I then arranged them randomly onto a small 6" x 6" canvas, layering them with DecoArt Modelling paste to create texture between the flowers

Once dry, I painted masking fluid onto the petals, then used Dylusions to colour the exposed card and the modelling paste

The masking fluid was rubbed to remove, some of the ink had seeped through but I liked the effect

The stamp was used upside down and the leaves looked like hydrangea petals

 So I coloured with pencils in purples and blues 

The texture was highlighted with Deco Art Metallic Lustre Champagne

Eric Loves his Football!

I started by stamping DT Heads, then brushed a wash of DecoArt Quinacridone gold, followed by Carbon black and then Adirondack Lettuce

I then placed Splodgeaway Chicked Wire and used a stencil brush to apply DecoArt triple gloss to act as a resist

Once dry I washed carbon black through and wiped back to reveal the football crowd behind!

The turf was drawn and then cut out and coloured with the lettuce and distressed with Black Soot

Eric was stamped and coloured with Promarkers and put in Goal with his beloved football

A Vintage Journey- Anything Tim

I'm stepping back in time on my vintage journey!

A few years ago I discovered this amazing guy called Jim Holtz well that's what it looked like!

He inspired me to get back into crafting but in a different way, having done pottery, jewellery and watercolours amongst other things I discovered this kind of mixed up grungy style which I loved

So there I was with a paper pad, a Vagabond a few dies and lots of little bottles of alcohol inks...

So here I am now using lots of ideology for many project styles but not specifically Holtz style and I have a lot of products sitting in drawers waiting to be used....

So here goes!

I had a lovely little box that had a candle in; it's about 3" square

and the wonderful Tim Holtz Laboratorie papers and a variety of embellishments

I measured and cut the chequer board effect for the lid and applied the box corners and the clock key and a key hole

The base was a real high gloss metallic gold, which I had to key with sandpaper

Applied a coat of DecoArt Glue & seal followers by Carbon Black acrylic paint

Followed by a thin coat of elegant finish silver, which created a grungy metallic finish

I cut a small piece of card to form a housing for a couple of artificial tea lights The corked vials were filled with various embossing powders and paints, labels were made by scanning images from the Tim Holtz papers and distressing with Black Soot and Walnut stain

I spritzed card with Dylusions Fresh Lime, Dirty Martini and Chopped Pesto

I dripped water and dappled with kitchen paper. Then dropped baby wipes and left to absorb the ink, this creates fab highlights

I use Stampotique Dandelion, Meadow, Spider Grass and Baby Bee

Using Adirondack Lettuce and distress inks Evergreen Bough, Pine Needles

Cracked Heart

DecoArt One Step Crackle and Texture Crackle Mediums

I replaced the glass in the frame with a paper mâché heart, that I cut in half and cut into the edge by about 1/2 " to allow flexibility fitting it into the aperture,  packed with newspaper and glued with Glossy accents and left to dry

Followed by a coat of Glue and Seal applied as a base for the Crackle Texture

I wanted to add more detail and to make prettier, the additional elements were made using paper clay. The large flower and bees, were moulds I made and the butterflies and small flowers were all Martha Stewart

These were left to dry overnight and attached with Glossy accents

At the same time I added the DecoArt texture crackle paste as this also need to dry overnight

I kept taking a peek as the cracks were forming, I was so pleased with the result the cracks are stunning really fine around the base and larger in the centre

I applied a single coat of Carbon Black as a base, over the main frame

For the Crackled Heart I used DecoArt Acrylic’s True Red, followed by Vivid Violet, Plum and Black Plum working out darker to the edge

Then a very light almost dry brush of Metallics Purple Pearl once dry I added a wash of black to tone down the colours and fill in the cracks and wiped back in the centre to highlight the colour

Next step was applying the Elegant Finish metallic paint this is great so easy to use, you just need to add small amount to the brush and sweep across the areas you want to highlight it’s like liquid silver

I applied one step crackle to the frame around the heart, this gives lovely cracks and dry’s in about 2 hours . I finished with a wash of black to fill the cracks and tone down the gloss a little

The Ribbon was coloured to match the heart using DecoArt So Soft Fabric paints, Crimson, Wisteria, Dioxine Purple and Black

I spritzed the grey ribbon and applied the colours with a brush, once dry I highlighted with the metallic silver So Soft

Journal 52- Colour Swatch

I found this lovely image and corresponding colours swatch online, I found the image so inspirational that I decided to incorporate it into my journal page rather than the actual colour swatch

I just love these bright vibrant colour tones, and was able to compliment them with Dylusions ink sprays Pomegranate Seed, Ground Coffee, London blue, Dry Martini, Funky Fuchsia and vibrant turquoise.

The background was created with DecoArt modelling paste through CWS Zinnia, Mini Pointy Circle, Mini Blazonry and That Special Touch- Chicken Wire which reflects some of detail in the image too

The texture was highlighted with Americana Titanium white and Lemonade acrylic, applied by dry brushing

I really enjoyed this challenge, such a great starting point for any project

Stampotique- Textured Backgrounds

My go to background effect is created with Modelling paste and stencils; I used a variety of Stencils CWS Mini Layered Beads, Mr Heuys Circle Graph and Splodgeaway Retro Circle

I applied the DecoArt modelling paste through the stencils and also textured other areas with just the palette knife and also wiping away areas with a baby wipe to add more effects

I also like to stamp into the modelling paste, this can be done when its first applied but won’t be as clear more textural

If you want the stamp to read best to let it set a little, I use Stampotique Row of Faces vertically as I wanted them to read as flowers

The colours are Dylusions sprays and then highlighted with DecoArt Metallic Lustres, Iced Espresso, Gold Rush and Champagne my favourite! :)

Journey 52 - Found Poetry

Springtime is such a wonderful time of year I tried to capture the lovely bright bursting yellow of daffodils, Crocus and fresh spring greens

I used a watercolour card as a base and coated with Gesso applied in waves to create texture, then applied layers of muslin with DecoArt Matt sealer Once dry I used Americana Cadmium and Primary Yellow, lemonade, sour Apple, Avocado, plum and black working from the top down

The clouds were created with modelling paste applied with a palette knife, the found poem was printed using Word Art and then torn

The Stamps are all Stampotique using Stazon Black
