Get Some Texture

What a great challenge and a great opportunity to study Tim’s techniques

I wanted to do a small canvas 8" x 8" but ended up doing a 12" x 12" as I made a washed acrylic background using DecoArt Acylics Carbon Black, Aquamarine, Quinacridone Gold and One Step Crackle

The main background was made using the Crumpled Kraft Suede technique using Distress Stain Inks, Persimmon, Peacock Feathers, Walnut Stain
I just love the softness this technique creates, the other technique was Enamelled stamping using The damask from Wallpaper & Wood stamps Using Aged Mahogany, Evergreen Boughs and Black Soot inks and clear embossing enamel

The face was Stamped from Classics 5 stamp set and coloured with antique linen, Marigold, Walnut Stain and Black Soot
The headress was made from Weathered Textiles, Birds & Baubles Damasks and a Papillion butterfly coloured with Alcohol inks

The Designs by Ryn Hummingbird and Moth were coloured in the same way and finished with DecoArt Triple Gloss

The banner was coloured with Distress inks Aged Mahogany, Evergreen Boughs, Peeled Paint and Walnut Stain, the centre was a piece of braid and lace, covered with Gesso and painted with DecoArt Antique Teal, Blueberry and Metallic Glorious gold

I also played with the Gilded Kraft Glassine technique but didn't use, saved for a future project!

I loved this texture challenge a great opportunity to revisit techniques and learn more :)

  6. Absolutely brilliant! I have wanted to use that face and create a headdress but haven't done it yet. This piece is magnificent. The coloring techniques, the texture the placement, just everything about it draws you into the picture. I appreciate so much when artists share their techniques, so thank you.

  12. Hey Jools, I just love those dark colours! Red and blue is a favourite combination of mine whether it's cherry and navy or bright red and turquoise. Just beautiful! The combination of paint and patterned texture in this is really neat too. Love it! Just noticed Lucine in there too... Thanks so much for getting in touch :)
